Rolf Helge Bergseth is the Emergency Response Manager of Nordsjørittet. He’s worked the past 15 years building an Emergency Preparedness organization around Nordsjørittet. As the number of participant riders increased year by year, the number of accident increased as well. There was more competition between the riders, the speed in the field increased, and the risk of large accidents increased as a result.

Nordsjørittet saw they needed to focus on coordinating Emergency Responders along the track. Rolf started to work with a central command that could coordinate all resources during the race. Rolf states, “We had a challenge getting updates on injured riders. With a race distance of 91 km during the race, we have 5000 riders in the trail. As a result of all the resources we used coordinating emergency personnel in the field, Nordsjøritttet established their own Tactical operation center. “

The Tactical operation center has the responsibility of coordinating small or large incidents of injured riders during the race. Rolf underlines, “The incident management software the Tactical Operation Center was going to use was a vital key to success. “

The Tactical operation center of Nordsjørittet has used RAYVN for several years now. Five people in the operation center continuously monitor the activity in the RAYVN live-feed.

Rolf states, “Implementing RAYVN in our Tactical Operation Center gives us better overview to handle concurrency conflict during the race.”

First aid teams, ambulance, and ATV are using the SMS functionality in RAYVN for reporting treatment the injured riders are receiving. When trail guards call the Tactical operation center to report accidents, RAYVN has functionality that allows the operation center to create specific incidents and set an urgency level on the incident. The Emergency Response Manager in Nordsjøritte then has overview of all active incidents and can prioritize his resources based on the urgency rate of the incident.

Rolf says, “We repeatedly experience the media contacting us after the race, asking critical questions about how we handled an accident. What I especially like about RAYVN is the ability to return to the log to check which measures have been taken.”

Nordsjørittet is the second largest bike race in Norway, with 10,000 riders of all ages. It’s Spring's most beautiful adventure - a 91 km race from Egersund to Sandnes, through breathtaking scenery and cities.

Nordsjørittet has become a significant source of income for many different organizations and teams.
