RAYVN completely simplifies crisis management, according to shipping company Seatrans. The crisis management tool improves collaboration, simplifies log-keeping from events, and provides a unified approach to handle an ongoing crisis.

“Our handling of critical situations has become much more efficient with RAYVN’s crisis management tool because the tool is very easy to use, and you don’t have to think about whom to call or when. We can simply focus on what really matters, namely to solve the ongoing crisis,” says CEO Gisle Rong of Seatrans Ship Management.

The Bergen-based shipping company owns and operates 14 chemical tankers and logistics vessels in the North Sea and across the Atlantic Ocean. The Seatrans Group has about 200 onshore employees and employs 700 seafarers. RAYVN’s crisis management tool is implemented on all Seatrans vessels. Though the company has managed to avoid the most serious types of accidents, the shipping company has experienced several incidents where crisis management has been required.

“RAYVN gives us the ability to use the same methodology for each incident. The tool guides us through each of the actions on our checklist, which makes the handling of an emergency more predictable,” says CEO Rong in Seatrans.

He also points out the benefit of logging during and in particular after an incident.

“Through RAYVN, we have a log without needing a dedicated scribe or log-keeper to sit down and document each step during the incident. This means we don’t end up with a whole puzzle of text messages, yellow sticky notes, and email copy-paste to reconstruct the series of events in retrospect. The finishing work becomes a whole lot easier,” Rong says.

And precisely this automatic log-keeping became important when Seatrans experienced an incident with a container ship in 2020, where tons of plastic pellets ended up in the ocean in the Skagerrak.

“The plastic pellets unexpectedly turned up along the southern coast of Norway and the Oslofjord months after the disposal. Since this became a larger incident and when the Norwegian coastal authorities demanded documentation of our preventive measures, we could quickly find documentation in our crisis management tool,” Rong explains.

Rong also mentions that RAYVN’s crisis management tool makes collaboration easier both among companies and government authorities.

“RAYVN can be applied by both crisis management teams and first-line responders as well as other partners in the crisis management. This provides everyone involved in handling the crisis with the same updated information as a basis for decision-making,” says Rong.
